Hats for the show ring

The ring rewards discipline. Clean lines, a conservative colour, a brim that holds its shape from the first class to the last.

Who wears what

  • Riders in the ring follow their society's rulebook for headwear, so check it before you buy. Our felts are for the handler, the judge's box and ringside, not the saddle in a rated class.
  • Handlers in led classes have the most freedom, and this is where a sculpted brim shines. Navy, black, beige and chocolate read as turnout rather than fashion.
  • Judges and officials spend the day outdoors. A wool felt with a medium brim, in a dark neutral, is the usual choice.
  • Ringside and presentations follow race day rules more than ring rules: colour is welcome, but the silhouette should stay structured.

Why the sculpted brim

Wool felt with a sculpted loop at the crown instead of a trim that moves. Nothing flaps, nothing catches the wind, and the line stays the same in every photo of the day. The sculpted brims are our best sellers and several colours run on pre-order, so if you have a show date, order early.

Finishing the turnout

Many societies list gloves and a hair net as part of turnout; check your class. Half-palm gloves in the hat's shade, hair in a net or low bun under the brim, and a lapel pin or stock tie if your class allows it.
